Farmers are often exposed to toxic gases.
Toxic gases can result in permanent health problems or sudden death. Manure storage and silo gases are often found on farms as the result of manure decomposition or crop storage. These gases can result in asphyxiation, irreversible lung damage and lingering respiratory problems.

Farmers and ranchers are often exposed to damaging ultraviolet rays from the sun.
Researchers have documented an increased incidence of skin cancer among farmers who work in the sun for prolonged periods without the benefit of protective clothing or sun screens.

Farmers are prone to an increased incidence of arthritis.
Research has shown that some farm work may result in permanent joint and ligament injury. These injuries predispose farmers to arthritic conditions which can seriously affect their mobility when performing farm chores.

Farmers and ranchers are often exposed to damaging noises and sounds.
Farmers and ranchers have increased levels of hearing loss when compared to other occupations. Hearing loss is prevalent among farmers who are exposed to loud and continuous noise from machinery and equipment which has not been properly maintained or when proper hearing protection is ignored.

Farmers and ranchers are at risk for respiratory diseases.
Farmers and ranchers who raise livestock in confinement housing often suffer from Organic Dust Toxic Syndrome (ODTS). These ailments are caused by toxins and dusts in livestock confinement facilities.

Farmers, ranchers and farm workers may be exposed to hazardous agricultural chemicals.
Agricultural pesticides and anhydrous ammonia are among the chemicals which can cause serious acute or chronic health problems. Many agricultural workers fail to wear personal protective equipment when handling agricultural chemicals.

Sinulog 2009

One of the biggest and popular festival in the Philippines and is the most awaited by all, the Sinulog Festival will is set to take the center stage this coming January 18, 2009 in Cebu City Philippines. The Sinulog Festival 2009 is the grandest and the most anticipated festival in Central Visayas. The Sinulog Festival will again display its glorious and exciting celebration in honor of the Holy Child Jesus, The Santo Nino under “One beat, One dance, One vision”. Cebu City will celebrate the Sinulog Festival 2009 with many activities that are lined up by the organizers and local government from January 9-18, 2009 with the main event, the Sinulog Grand Parade.

The Sinulog Foundation, Cebu City local government and the people of Cebu has prepared this festival with many exciting activities. Visitors especially the balikbayans, foreigners and locals will enjoy and experience the bombardment of excitement from the beginning of the celebration up to the end especially the highlights — The Sinulog Grand Parade on January 18, 2009. Some other highlights in the festivities of the Sinulog Festival 2009 are the Sinulog Photo Exhibits in Mactan Airport, Ayala, SM City and Emal (Jan. 5), Sinulog sa Kabataan—Lalawigan (Jan. 10), Sinulog sa Kabataan—Dakbayan (Jan. 11), Sinulog Festival Queen (Jan. 16), nightly programs like Cultural Shows and Street Party bands at Fuente OsmeƱa.

In the Sinulog Grand Parade where contingents will be dancing in the streets of Cebu City with their colorful and spectacular costumes, local and foreign visitors will experience better performance because of the new concepts and productions that the contingents has prepared. There are already many contingents who lready confirmed to join the Sinulog Festival 2009 to show their prowness in The Sinulog Dancing under the beat of the drums. Some of the contingents are Sangyaw Festival of Tacloban City in Dulag, Leyte; Contigents from Cabadbaran City, Tangub City and Lanao Del Norte; Alikaraw Festival of Hilongos Leyte; Pintaflores of San Carlos City; Buyugan Festival of Abuyog and Jimalalud de Sinulog.
